Tony’s, the Dutch chocolatier, main partner of K’origins, planned to have supplementary judgments issued for children in cooperatives born without birth certificates having been issued. This is the phenomenon of so-called ghost children. Because they do not have birth certificates, they have no legal existence. Consequently, it is subsequently difficult for them to have access to civilian life.
Therefore, in order to avoid these inconveniences, Tony’s organized the distribution of supplementary judgments for the ghost children of the Kapatchiva cooperatives in Bonon and Ecojad cooperatives in Daloa. It was during the General Assemblies that the supplementary judgments were given to the cooperatives in the presence of local authorities (Sub-prefect and representatives of the Ministry of Women, Family and Children), on July 14 and 15 2020.
The subject of ghost children is a hot topic and an important one. It touches on the Conventions on the Rights of the Child. In particular the child’s right to legal personality. A child without a birth certificate cannot take exams. He cannot therefore continue his studies, he has no nationality, and cannot vote when he comes of age. The major concern in distributing these supplementary judgments which will make it possible to establish birth certificates is to allow these children to have a civil life and a legal existence.
In addition, a child who has a legal existence is protected. This means that it will be less exposed to child labor. The issues related to ghost children are therefore very deep and deserve to be considered.
This is why Tony’s made this gesture in their favor.
